Qigong (pronounced “chee-gung”) is traditionally viewed as a practice to balance Qi (chi) or what has been translated as internal or intrinsic energy.
Typically a Qigong class involves rhythmic breathing, coordinated with slow movements or static postures and a calm mindful state. Qigong is a great form of gentle exercise and can be practiced by everyone. It is great for improving health as well as concentration levels and focus.
Qigong is also seen as a type of alternative medicine which can help to re-balance energies within the body. This makes it ideal during pregnancy or as a natural alternative to medication. It is also fantastic for helping to relax when stressed or to lift the spirit when run down or depressed.
From a philosophical perspective qigong is believed to help develop human potential, allow access to higher realms of awareness, and awaken one’s “true nature.” Regular practice can maintain a healthy and supple body as well as balancing Qi and, in combination with your kung fu practice, can be a source of unlimited power.
Public classes, private and online tuition is available. It is suitable for everyone of all abilities and ages. Each session is split into two halves. In the first half you will be taken through a qigong workout. This workout consists of gentle stretching and meditative stances as well as qigong exercises. In the second half you will be taught a section of one of the qigong forms and we will discuss how it works and the various benefits of practising it.
We have public Qigong classes every Tuesday evening at 6.30-7.30pm. The classes are open to anyone, of any age, who are interested in learning the art of Qigong.
Classes are priced at £5 per class. There is also the option to buy a loyalty card for £30. This will grant you a 7th class for free. Students will learn at their own rate, piece by piece, until they have learned a complete qigong form. We then recap on how the form works and the main benefits to the body. Comfortable, loose clothing should be worn with flat trainers or plimsoles. Take some water with you too. If you would like to enquire further about these classes, you can email us directly to ask any questions.
If you prefer to learn privately, we have 1-1 tuition available. These sessions can easily be booked online with the link below:
